   Mayor Rob Ford, right, appears at a Conservative barbecue on Aug. 29 with brother Doug. He had said he planned to propose
his subway plan to Stephen Harper over a hamburger, but left without approaching the prime minister. Observers said later
they were concerned he had left the party impaired in his Escalade. A “domestic assault”
call to Mayor Rob Ford’s house in August disrupted a nearby police sting involving alleged drug dealer and Ford friend
Alexander “Sandro” Lisi, court documents released by a judge reveal. The trouble at the Ford house prompted Lisi
to make a rapid flurry of calls to Ford and city hall staffer Dave Price, and apparently stopped him from driving into the
sting. The domestic call also sent uniformed officers to Ford’s house and caused the undercover detectives to break
off surveillance that August evening. After the domestic assault call, Ford left his home and checked in to the Grand Hotel
on Jarvis St. for three nights, attending the Stephen Harper Conservative barbecue at Sunnybrook Park on one of those evenings.
Lisi also paid a visit to the hotel on the first night, according to police documents. Rob Ford gets laughs in first public
speech since losing powers. A teacher says he observed the mayor parked in his Cadillac Escalade on a back street behind the
Grand Hotel, accepting something from a man on foot. The area behind the hotel is known as “crack central” by
locals. The Star does not know what Ford was handed by the man on foot. The late August call to investigate an allegation
of domestic assault at Ford’s house, more than two dozen with members of the Ford family over the past eight years.
Sources have said these “interactions” include domestic violence calls. Ford was charged in 2008 with assaulting
and threatening to kill his wife. The charges were withdrawn by a Crown attorney, who cited “inconsistencies”
in his wife, Renata’s, statements. Ford has not been charged in connection with any of the other police interactions
with him. We learned of other trouble calls to the mayor’s house, including one in 2012 in which local officers arrived
to find Ford outside his house in the early morning hours yelling into his phone, while a stretch limousine idled on the road
and its driver and a scantily clad woman stood in Ford’s driveway, arguing!
Dec. 23, 2012: Police officers from 22 Division in Etobicoke were called to the home of Renata Ford’s parents.
According to a police report, Renata, Ford’s wife, had a “fare dispute with a taxi cab driver.”“Upon speaking with Mrs. Ford, officers observed numerous physical injuries
including scrapes, bruising and cuts about Mrs. Ford’s face and body. The injuries appeared to be several days old and
investigation revealed Mrs. Ford had attended” at hospital to receive treatment, the report states. “Mrs. Ford
alleged a domestic incident had taken place earlier this evening, but that the injuries were not related to that event.”
Police state in the report that Renata Ford had been drinking
and would not cooperate in the investigation. Police took her to hospital and passed the report on to detectives for further
investigation. Police have said no charges were laid.

that litigation will cost big bucks and taxpayers presumably would be stuck with the tab. “Think about the taxpayers
in this situation.” Many of those taxpayers — 116,000 — had already been heard from, in fact, via signatures
affixed to a petition the previous day and tabled by Councillor Michael Thompson. “We demand that he resign from the
position of mayor of Toronto immediately.”

flooding, heat waves, droughts, war and disease — are likely to worsen as the world warms from man-made climate change,
a leaked draft of an international scientific report forecasts.The report uses the word "exacerbate" repeatedly to describe
warming's effect on poverty, lack of water, disease and even the causes of war.The Nobel Peace Prize-winning Intergovernmental
Panel on Climate Change will issue a report next March on how global warming is already affecting the way people live and
what will happen in the future.

car doors for thieves New $5 device unlocks car doors A new tool is allowing criminals across the
world to break into cars without leaving a trace, and now that device has made its way to Winnipeg. The
new device can be purchased online for about $5 and sends an electromagnetic pulse through a car’s key area to unlock
the vehicle.Winnipegger Rick Henzel had no idea the technology existed, until his car was broken into early Sunday morning.“We
did find the glove box open, insurance papers stolen,” said Henzel.At first, he thought his wife had left the doors
unlocked, but a neighbour told him he had phoned the police early that morning when he heard noise outside.Luckily, the whole
thing was caught on tape. Henzel had installed security cameras on his property about a year ago when his car was broken into
previously.“They come running up into the screen. It’s a free for all,” he said. “They’re in
that car as well and away they go. Just like that.”Thieves can be seen applying a device to a car and then opening the
door as if it is unlocked.“It makes you feel a bit vulnerable to be honest with you because you feel like a victim,”
said Henzel. Michael Legary is a security expert with Seccuris. He said thieves are using the $5 devices to hack into vehicles’
computer systems. "So just like we have to worry about our computers being hacked, our cars can be hacked as well,”
said Legary. “That's something we didn't have to worry about a decade ago." The device sends an electromagnetic pulse
into the vehicle, tricking it into unlocking the door, much like a keyless entry key fob.
 On Saturday, Nov. 16, volunteers from Sierra Club of Peel will
protest government's decision to expand tar sands. A group of local residents will be joining dozens
of communities across Canada to oppose risks posed by pipelines and oil sands expansion.The participants are planning to gather
outside the offices of Parm Gill (MP-Brampton Springdale) at 180 Sandalwood Pkwy. at 9:30 a.m. From there, they will ride
their bikes along the Etobicoke Creek Trail, to arrive at the constituency offices of Brampton West MP Kyle Seeback at 160
Main St. S. at around 11 a.m. Similar rallies— facilitated by Leadnow.ca, an independent advocacy group—
will take place simultaneously from coast-to-coast and involve various environmental, indigenous and community groups, explained
David Laing, one of the organizers.“The Canadian government refuses to acknowledge the seriousness of the climate crisis
and the risks associated with pipeline transport of diluted bitumen across the country,” he said. “Our government
seems willing to gamble with the water supply of three million Canadians and the long-term viability of the planet in the
name of economic development. But they have no Plan B.” 
Santa Claus Parade taking place, Saturday, Nov. 16 at 5 p.m “Now more than ever, we need everyone who can afford to donate
to attend this year’s Santa Claus Parade and make a contribution to the Salvation Army’s annual Christmas Food
Drive,” said Rick Phillips, parade chair. For the past
20 years, the Canadian Progress Club of Brampton has entered a float in the Santa Claus Parade and has collected about 100,000
pounds of food for the Salvation Army’s holiday campaign. Last
year alone, the Progress Club, collected 10,000 pounds of food items. Additionally, the organization also collects cash
donations along the parade route.
